Glacier Travel & Crevasse Rescue Course August 24, 2024

This two-day course focuses on the skills needed to travel safely on glaciated terrain. Day one is based in Christchurch at one of the local rock climbing crags in the Port Hills. Day two is spent up in the snow, putting what we learnt on day one into practice.

Prerequisites

Since this course is delivered in the snow, you must have the skills to walk in crampons, use a walking axe, and self-arrest.

COURSE LOCATION

This course is delivered in Christchurch and in the Craigieburn Range, close to Castle Hill village.

The course’s practical components are delivered both at a crag on the Port Hills in Christchurch and in the Craigieburn Range. We access the snow via Broken River or Mt Cheeseman ski field on day two. Your instructor will decide the exact location for the second day.

The course finishes at approximately 4 pm in Castle Hill Village.
